Test-Prep companies offer one-on-one tutoring, and can charge anywhere from $100 to $400 per hour. The tutor sometimes receives as little as 15% of this, however; the rest goes to the company. If a tutor is good enough to attract clients by reputation and word-of-mouth, he or she can charge less than a Test Prep company and earn more for him or herself, which is why many of the best GMAT tutors work freelance, or have started local one-person tutoring companies - the student and the tutor both get better value.
